MAXGE SGS1-40DC DC surge protective device

The role of a DC surge protective device

An SPD is specified for transient overvoltage protection. Its selection is considered alongside the other protective devices in the circuit. If your project needs DC circuit breakers as well as SPDs, provide both sets of requirements so that each product can be reviewed for its own function.

For a solar or another DC installation, identify where surge protection is required and the system conditions at that point. This gives the product discussion a defined application rather than relying on a product name alone.

Understand the voltage and surge ratings

MAXGE’s SGS1-DC family information lists a nominal discharge current of 20 kA and a maximum discharge current of up to 40 kA. These surge-discharge ratings describe the SPD’s surge performance. Confirm the voltage, pole configuration and ratings of the exact SGS1-40DC version requested.

Prepare your SPD inquiry

If a project specification already defines the surge protection requirements, send those values with your inquiry. Where a previous device is being reviewed for replacement, include its complete ratings and the installation requirements so the comparison can be made on technical information.

  • Company name, destination country and application.
  • DC system voltage, required SPD configuration and protection ratings.
  • Any specified standard, technical approval or model documentation.
  • Required quantity and purchasing schedule.

Ask for the datasheet matched to the proposed version. If your market requires certification or a declaration of conformity, request the document for the exact model and configuration being considered.
